SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

As part of Speedway Australia’s commitment to child safety and regulatory compliance, a phased implementation of screening requirements will be introduced for officials and volunteers whose roles involve direct or indirect contact with children or vulnerable persons.

As required by each individual state and territory law, persons working or volunteering in close proximity to children must hold a current and valid Working With Children Check, or relevant state or territory equivalent.

A transition period has been intentionally provided to allow sufficient time for individuals to obtain the relevant checks and provide their clearance details to Speedway Australia for verification and recording.

It is important to understand that these requirements are not new obligations created by Speedway Australia. Working With Children Checks, Working With Vulnerable People registrations, Blue Cards, Ochre Cards and equivalent screening requirements are legislative requirements administered by State and Territory governments. Speedway Australia is implementing a national compliance framework to ensure our sport meets those obligations and maintains a safe environment for all participants.

As screening requirements, exemptions and application processes vary between jurisdictions, individuals with questions relating to their specific State or Territory requirements should contact the relevant screening authority directly. Links to the applicable government screening websites can be found here. Speedway Australia can provide assistance regarding its compliance and verification requirements but cannot provide advice on individual eligibility, exemptions or legislative requirements.

Key Dates:

November 1st 2026 – Implementation commences.
March 1st 2027 – Mandatory compliance for all Stewards and Scrutineers, and any Marshals or other officials whose roles involve direct or indirect contact with children or vulnerable persons.
